Bread is one of the oldest foods crafted by humanity and is a nice skill to have in your list of cooking skills. However, like many other cooking skills, it takes time and patience to learn how to properly bake bread. And it all comes down to having the right information on the basics and techniques of bread baking.
Understanding bread baking comes down to knowing the four major stages that are involved in the process:
Mixing – this is the process of combining the raw ingredients (flour, water, yeast, salt) into the dough.
Proofing – this is where you let the yeast in the dough eat up the sugars to produce gas and alcohol. At the end of this process, the dough rises and takes on a flavor. Master bakers know how to “teach” the dough to result in what they want at the end.
Baking – this stage is perhaps the most common, as it entails taking the dough and inserting into a hot oven. The end product of this stage is a well-cooked and delicious bread.
Storing – after you’ve baked the bread, you can store it for consumption or, in large scale operations, for sale.
